Was describing how bad this thing was to a friend - then decided, it would be funnier if I made a vid to show them.

This may be the only time I’ve ever felt 2nd hand embarrassment for an inanimate object. It’s just so bad at what it’s trying to do.

And some info about these here:

Goes faster in reverse

I think it makes better contact with the track in reverse. Or maybe it vibrates less? It’s hard to tell if it vibrates because of bad electrical contact, or if the vibration causes it to lose electrical contact.

Bouncy boy! And so bad it broke youtube (kept buffering for me despite my near-gigabit connection).

Pretty sure there’s a couple of these in the collection at my grandparents’ place. Or some other similarly shitty trains.

I’ve got some tinplate O gauge I could dig out.

Is it just the locomotive that you're complaining about here or the entire system? In any event, I think that controller is kind of sexy how they made the knobs be like miniature locomotive controls.

I know nothing about model trains, but I still laughed.

Seems to go faster in reverse and nearly wobbled onto its side going forward. Great editing (color balance I think was why it looked so good) and cinematography.

My pops still sets up an O-gauge display every year for Christmas. He still has several Lionel pieces that he got back in the early 50's, and they still work fantastically.

That’s super bad. Serious question: what’s good N scale, without breaking the bank? I’ve been seriously looking at a basic Christmas-themed kit like this as a starter for my boys: https://shop.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2547&zenid=tm9n0ggoqn2rkrl3eb87jna430

Is it worth it? Is there a better deal in N scale for starting out ? I’d prefer HO for easy of use, but we don’t have the space...

In the past I would’ve recommended the Life-Like Little Joe set, serious modellers hated it, but for just north of $60 it was fine for entertaining the kids without spending big bucks. You can still find unopened sets on ebay sometimes.

Honestly, to get the best bang for the buck, I’d do something like buy one of Kato’s Unitrack starter sets, and then just purchase whatever rolling stock you’re into. Kato’s track and controller are better than what you’d find in any starter set from Bachmann et. al. and then you can just find whatever locomotive and cars you really want, instead of what the company is packaging with the track.

You could print-out a 40% coupon from Hobby Lobby and buy a Bachmann n-scale train set from them for about ~$70.

Berang’s input is more useful. I’m pretty basic so I grew-up around cheap Life-Like and Bachmann trains, even though Kato is probably much better in terms of quality and value.
